Race 1 - PECO Middleton
Our first championship race of 2024 was January's PECO. It was supposed to be at Wetherby, but they weren't quite ready so back at Middleton which we all love!
40 STAC's raced on what was a relatively mild Janauary day. The ladies were battling to stay in top division and the men going for promotion.
Well done to Dave Parker 1st in his age cat, Jamie Graham 2nd and Lynn Fletcher 3rd.

Race 2 - Dewsbury 10k
The 2nd race of year was the annual trip to Dewsbury. This is a fast 10k course and there were pb's aplenty from the 50 STAC's who raced and paced.
Some incredible runs with Jamie Graham 2nd in his age category whilst Lynn Fletcher and Dave Parker were both 3rd.
Also some amazing runs by some of last year's Beginners course graduates.
Early leaders of the Championship are Jamie Graham, Dave Parker and Chin Yong in the men's and Annie Roddy, Hazel Normanhenny and Sarah Morley in the women's

Race 3 - Penistone parkrun
Third championship 'race' was Penistone parkun. A mixed terrain run round a field then out and back on a path route.
30 STAC's took part, well done to Richard Herrington who was first finisher and also do Andrew Gardner who has now completed an incredible 350 STAC club races.
Club Championship Annie Roddy leads Sarah Morley by just 1 point with Hazel Normanhenney in 3rd. In the men's Jamie Graham still leads but Richard Herrington is up to 2nd with Dave Parker in 3rd.
It's the best 2 of 3 races counting so far (by the end of the year will be the best 8 of 14).
Race 4 - Thirsk 10
Race number 4 saw 30 STAC's travel to North Yorkshire for the Thirsk 10, a flat fast road run.
Some incredible runs with Emma Ballantyne 3rd lady and 2nd in age cat, Jamie Graham and Andrew Grinnell 3rd age cat.
It was also a YVAA run so Emma, Jamie, Andrew, Annie Roddy, Dave Parker and Dave Morley all picked up age cat trophies. Phew!
In the championship with the best 3 out of 4 counting it's still v close in the ladies with Annie Roddy edging ahead of Sarah Morley in 2nd and then Hazel Normanhenney 3rd. In the men's Jamie Graham remains out of front but Dave Parker is 2nd and Chin Andrew Grinnell 3rd.
Club Championship Info
What is the STAC club championship?
The club championship is across 14 selected races over 2024. A runners best 8 races will count towards the championship. There will be prizes for best female and male runner and the league table will be updated throughout the year.
There will also be the ‘Andrew Gardner award’ for any runner who does all 14 races. The award is named after Andrew who incredibly did 339 consecutive club races between 1992 and 2020.
For the races chosen, we try to get a good variety of events; from distance, size, terrain and hills!
All 1st and 2nd claim members are welcome to join any or all the races. There is usually a good STAC turnout on all events. So even if you can only make one or two it’s a great way to do a run that you wouldn’t normally do with other STACs!
How does scoring work?
There is a maximum 400 points possible per race.
The fastest STAC will get 400 points; 200 points for the fastest time and 200 points for being best STAC.
Everyone else gets points related to how fast they were compared to the fastest time (so if a person was 25% slower they would get 150/200 points) and their STAC placing in that race (so if they were 5th fastest STAC 195/200) points. A total of 345/400 points for this example.
There are 14 races in 2024 and the best 8 will count towards the final placing in the table.
Throughout the year the club championship table will be updated as follows:
Race 1 - Best 1 from 1 race
Race 2 - 2 from 2
Race 3 - 2 from 3
Race 4 - 3 from 4
Race 5 - 3 from 5
Race 6 - 4 from 6
Race 7 - 4 from 7
Race 8 - 5 from 8
Race 9 - 6 from 9
Race 10 - 6 from 10
Race 11 - 7 from 11
Race 12 - 7 from 12
Race 13 - 8 from 13
Race 14 - 8 from 14
