To all members of STAC. I have an idea which I hope will fire the imagination.
The adventure, as I see it, is for about 24 members or so, plus back up teams, to run a relay in pairs, from Bowness at lake Windermere in the Lake District to Ilkley, over what is known as The Dalesway.
This is a popular walk of a good 80miles, which is normally done from 5 to 8 days. Most of this is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so there is plenty of picturesque scenery to be enjoyed en route.
I stress this is not a race, but run at a comfortable pace for your ability. Anyone who enjoys off road running, away from the sound of traffic etc will love it, and if you can run at 12 minutes per mile, there
There is no reason you cannot take part. The distance of legs could vary from around 4 to 9 or 10 miles, the shorter legs probably after crossing the Cam Head at the highest point and reaching Oughtershaw, where the road begins again, almost into Wharfedale. When this adventure does get off the ground, depending on members response to this exciting project, it,s certain that we,ll need a 12 seater mini bus.
To complete the run in one day the 1st runners would need to start at 6am, yes, the sun would be well and truly up, by then folks, in June. It would also mean an overnight stay for those in the bus to do this.
