Having volunteering my services to help it was an earlier start than most. Arriving at 9.00am on a lovely Sunday morning and picking up my ” free BBQ token ” I made my way to my 1st job which was the car park; you wouldn’t believe how stupid people are when it comes to parking and i will leave it at that!!
The car park soon filled up but what was nice was the amount of STAC runners who turned up in force again. So onto the race and my 2nd job which was course marshal. Some 500 runners set off from the lovely village green and were soon flying past me, I had a feeling the weather would change and was proved right; it got hotter as the morning went on, hence my sun hat.
From there I headed to the finish line for my 3rd job number spotting / recording. The runners were soon coming in, and 1st STAC male home was Richard Herrington 9th overall in a time of 37.14. 2nd male was Steve Head & 3rd was Rob Blemings. 1st STAC female was Sophie Cullen ( who was flying by the way ) 120th overall in a time of 46.37. 2nd female was Wanda Macdonald & 3rd was Anna Milburn. The finish of the day has to be Richard Cooper & Malcolm Lavery, what a sprint finish from these two lads, team mates but fighting to the bitter end it was that close they both got the same time. The team spirit we have in the club is fantastic which was noted to me by the man who I was working with on the day so well done everyone, 28 STAC runners in total which was far the biggest turn out from any one club.
The smell of the BBQ was starting to make my stomach rumble by now but that had to wait still work to be done, so with the sun shining and runners coming in, it made for a great day all round for everyone. One final point from me which proves what a great club we are, was the cheers that the legend Jonny Johnson got when he came into the finish area it was FANTASTIC !!!
Happy running Paul.
