St Theresa’s Athletic Club (STAC)
Welcome to STAC…. A friendly and supportive running club based in East Leeds. We are a medium-sized Club, with a Membership base of 220 people of mixed ages and running abilities. We are looking forward to celebrating our 35th Anniversary next year and we are proud that some of our Members have remained with us since our first run.
New Members: Are always welcome to pop along to one of our training sessions and join us, support is always there via coaches and Members and you’ll be placed with a Group that matches your running needs and ability. Come along for a few trial sessions before completing the joining form / processes. We look forward to meeting you.
Training: takes place on a Tuesday at 7:00pm (with an earlier session available at 5:45pm) at the Barnbow Club, Crossgates and normally involves a 5-8 mile road (or in the Summer trail) run. We will match you to a Group that runs at a pace / distance that suits your ability and you can progress to the next Group if and when you feel ready. We also hold a training session at 6:30pm on a Thursday, meeting close to Temple Newsam Estate. We utilise the park for a variety of training (hill / speed / fartlek etc) sessions that are designed to build strength, endurance and ability. Additional track sessions and group runs are also scheduled on a regular basis.
Club Championship League(s): We currently hold 12 Club Championship (League) Races a year which include local road and trail races at a variety of distances that will appeal to all. We have separate Championships for fell running and we’re in the process of introducing a league for local parkruns.
Parkrun: has been a great introduction to running for many of our members, providing them with a 5k platform to build on. The Club provide the support that will enable you to extend this distance and participate in local races. We always have a good Member representation at our local parkrun event, Temple Newsam, including pacers and run buddies to encourage you around the course.
Our beginners course is held over 12 weeks, commencing in April. We have an experience Group of leaders and volunteers who will guide you through sessions that will enable you to achieve the goal of running non-stop for 30 minutes. We believe everyone has the ability to fulfil their running ambitions.
Temple Newsam (TNT) 10: We are delighted to hold our own 10 mile multi-terrain Race within the fabulous grounds of Temple Newsam Estate (and surrounding areas). The event is becoming well recognised within the local race circuit and planning is underway to make our 3rd year the most successful yet! This will take place on the 14 January 2018 and it will be publicised and open for entry mid-Summer.
Local Events / Competitions: As a Club we are well recognised within the Leeds running scene and actively participate in local running competitions such as Leeds Country Way (LCW), PECO (Cross Country League) and Leeds Race Series. As part of our Fell Running Championships, we race in events such as ‘King of the Hill’ series in Marsden.
Social Events: It’s not all about the running…. We are family friendly and like to have fun. We hold several functions and events throughout the year which range from days out at the Races to picnics and games in the Park.
